Benefits of Skill Development Program in India

Skill India is a campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15 July 2015 with an aim to train over 40 crore people in India in different skills by 2022. The program is designed to empower youth with valuable skills. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also launched the logo of the scheme with the tagline, “Kaushal Bharat, Kushal Bharat”.

Skill development program includes various initiatives of the government such as "National Skill Development Mission", "National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, 2015", "Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)" and the "Skill Loan scheme". The government’s flagship skill development program will provide financial rewards to candidates who successfully complete approved skill training programmes.

National skill development program is conducted to upgrade the skills of unemployed youth, so that they can grab the best employment opportunities in the industry. It has been introduced to fulfil the country’s need for skilled labourers as well as for transforming India into worldwide sourcing hub by the means of skill development initiative. It has public- private model to address the issue under "skill India" mission.

There are private institutes engaged in bridging the gap between the skills required in various industries and those offered by the education system. These institutes have entered into a partnership with NSDC with a primary aim of training millions of youth across rural and semi-urban India. These institutes are engaged in meeting the constant training requirements of large scale skill deficit in India by providing low cost and high quality skill training program including diploma and degree courses.
